THE FALLEN By Celia Thomson

1112383

After falling in love with ABC Family's television series about "The nine lives of Chloe King" and having my heart broken by it being cancelled I was a little skeptical about picking up the series because I just didn't want to be disappointed, but needing some closure to the season one finale I decided to pick the series up and find out what happened once and for all.

I am glad I did.

I started this book cautiously expecting it to be a little dull and slow, but was surprised that in only two sittings that all in all consisted in almost only four hours I had managed to read, love, and enjoy the book in a way that I hadn't expected when I had first picked it up. Now, keep in mind this is a light hearted read. This is not a book with some alternate meaning, some philosophical point of view, or a very complex plot with super dynamic characters that will have you read pages twice so you can understand what happened. This is simply a book about a girl that dies, comes back to life with cat-like-powers, struggles to figure out which of two guys a she likes more, and deals with her two best friends dating. Its a fun, page turner book that will have you  laughing out loud, and getting exited over the action throughout the book.

the characters in the book where easy to read and easy to understand, but my favorite out of all of the had to be Chloe. Celia made and excellent job about making her half feline without making her corny which was pleasing. I also really related to her because she acted like a normal teenager. She had her rebellious outbreaks, her nervous breakdowns, and her moments of blind courage that made her "real" and apart from her feline like powers I saw allot of myself in her.

I am really exited to see where the story will go because the differences from the TV show where shocking. This was of course to be expected, but it still took me a few moments to process a few of them, in a good way because I just feel it made everything more interesting.

PICK IT UP NOW:THE FALLEN

CONFESIONS OF A MURDER SUSPECT By James Patterson

13521399

I have always enjoyed James Patterson's writing. I have always found it to be light, to the point, witty, and easy to follow, but I feel that in confessions of a murder suspect he tried switching it up a bit which really didn't work out (in my opinion). Maybe it was because he collaborated with Maxine Paetro? or maybe he wanted to try something new? I don't know which it was, but something in the writing style made it harder to read...I don't know, it just felt slower.

One thing that I really enjoyed about this book was the fact that Tandy, the main character, seemed to have a special connection to us, the read, in a way where it almost seemed as the book was an entire conversation that went back and forth between to people which made the book feel somewhat "personal".
Even though Tandy's way of explaining things, and telling her story may be confusing and downright frustrating at times it made you pay closer attention to every little thing she said because you didn't know if that particular word would reveal a clue later on in the story or contribute to a information gap/questions from previous chapters.

The Mystery and suspense in the book where really palpable and easy to follow and enjoy throughout the book. With the murder of Mr. and Mrs. Angel and some other interesting and creepy incident that appear shortly after out young wannabe Nancy Drew has allot on her plate because of her constant need to discover the truth about everything.

The characters in this book where really complex to read about. Their faults where easy to read and understand while still being complex. These characters, and I mean every single one of them, had things to hide, secrets to reveal, and complex emotions that made reading about them, and the mysteries surrounding them more interesting.

There are still a few gaps in my mind about what happened in the end of the book, but since this is only the first installment in the series I hope that future books will be able to explain and clear up any of the foggy detail this one left behind.

Overall this was a quick, enjoyable read. Maybe not up to my expectations of James Patterson, but it was still enjoyable for the most part.

EMERALD GREEN By Kerstin Gier

14759651

I have no words for this book. I am still in post-series shock.

The plot brought everything together nicely, it explained all of the gaps and questions I had from the last book, and it gave me some closure for what happens to the characters even though I am still a little bit fuzzy about what happened to some of them.

The beginning, I will admit, was quite slow because it primarily consisted of Gwen discovering new things and secrets, and dealing with Gideon which I understand was necessary to build up to the climax, but I still couldn't help but yawn once or twice.
The multiple plot twits throughout the book where very unexpected (at least for me) and after you got over the shock of discovering something you would realize that with the new piece of information you would gain another puzzle piece that was missing from the beginning, or sometimes you would scream at the book for several minutes calling yourself names because you realized that what had happened was very obvious, but you had not noticed it.

The romance in this book was okay. I mean, for most of the book Gwen and Gideon bicker and fight about whether who hates the other the most and to see who is most infuriated about them becoming "friends". I will say that I did enjoy all of the Gwen/Gideon kissy kissy scenes though because apart from being a big "FINALLY!" they where also kinds funny (read to find out). The only thing that bothered me about the whole ordeal was that Gwen forgave Gideon in an instant even when she vowed never to have anything to do with him ever again. Not that I didn't want them to be apart, but Gwen's sudden forgiveness caught me off guard because I was expecting her to slap him instead of to run into his arms.I was sorta disappointed that we didn't see much of Lesley/Raphael action, but you cant have everything you want in life. right?

EMERALD GREEN is an exiting and satisfying conclusion to the Ruby red trilogy that will keep you flipping pages like a maniac and laughing out loud from time to time.

THE IRON KING By Julie Kagawa

6644117

I had been recommended this book for so loooong, but now that I have read it I wish I would have listened to my friends sooner!!

This not having been the first book of Julie's I have read I was pleasantly surprised when her very easy to read writing style was in the entire book, making it an easy, quick, and pleasant read that will make you crave the sequel the second you read the last page.

THE IRON KING was one of those books that combine romance, action, and adventure in such an easy and carefree way, so that you don't get overwhelmed over any of the three genres above. Its the perfect blend of the three. I really loved the quest that Meghan had to embark on  because it was a non stop action packed road trip through all of the Fey realm where we got to encounter scary creatures, and far too many near-death situations. Another thing that I loved about THE IRON KING was the way Julie described everything in the world because it was in a sort of "care free" way that made everything seem, in a way, more real.

The romance was very well built up as well because it was, like I said before, not too overwhelming not nonexistent. Though while reading the book the feelings of both guys where kinda obvious (in a way) but in Meghan's mind there was really only one contender even though there was obvious feelings for both guys, but it was still fun to see them fight over her, and have jealousy fits.

All of the characters in this book where also very interesting and so dynamic that none of them stood out for too much at a time, well maybe just enough to get to know them, understand them, and either hate them, be intrigued, or fall head over heels for them.

I am really intrigued to find out what happens to all of these characters, and the entire fey world!

Addicting!

TORN By Amanda Hocking

11966216

I really don't understand what I expected out of this sequel, but it certainly wasn't anything special though it wasn't total disaster either.

We saw alot of more plot development and building throughout this book which was good because we seriously needed some background on the Vittra and why they where so desperate to kidnap Wendy at any cost. Even though we still are on a need-to-know-basis about this kind of information we where still able to fill in some of the gaps that we had from the previous book.

One thing that did NOT develop at all was Finn and Wendy's relationship. From page one the only thing that they seem to do is  either ignore each other, scream at each other, or kiss because they where too "emotionally confused". In the synopsis of the book Amanda also hinted Wendy might develop another love interest which would be a make it or break it move because love triangles are very cliche, and very tricky to write in the correct way so that the reader isn't either bored or too overwhelmed by the "new girl" or "new guy" but I think that Amanda was able to write this "triangle" quite decently because I was (am) rather intrigued by Loki, which I think is a good thing considering that he will be one of the main reasons that I may pick up the third book. The whole issue with the arranged marriage didn't bother me or surprised me that much because I was it coming since book one because Tove being engaged to Wendy was the only logical reason I could come up with him spending so much time at the palace. One thing that did surprise me though was Tove's real intentions (not gonna say cuz SPOILERS).

I am intrigued to see how this series will come to an end  because I still have a few questions with the main conflict and the story, but I guess we shall see in the third book.

THE BURNING SKY By Sherry Thomas

17332556

While the idea of the book wasn't one that we hadn't seen before "The burning sky" still showed signs of being a fantastic read, but just fell into the "okay-ish" category. The third person narrative in which the story is told makes it seem like an old, slow paced novel which does not help with the whole "exiting read" idea that I had in my mind.  The points of view frustrated me sometimes because they would just switch back and forth without any real warning, and that made the book seem choppy and poorly edited.

I find that alot of authors these days seem to leave out important details of the setting and villains that could be vital in a readers understanding and enjoyment of the book, but somehow they just expect us to hate a villain just because the "hero" tells us to do so. One example of this was Atlantis and The Bane. Throughout the book Sherry tells us that these two are evil evil things, and must be brought down because of all the evil things they have done and all of what they represent, and the entire time I am reading this I just want to scream at the book "WHAT EVIL THINGS?!" I really needed an explanation to why the Bane was a monster (not that he wasn't) and why Atlantis was such a terrible place to be ( a little bit of background on this would have been amazing) and why the heroes of the story where willing to give up so much in order to bring them down. (clarifying that Atlantis is a place and not an actual human being)

The characters in this book where indeed wonderful, but sometimes the confusion with the point of view and the setting was too much and maybe took away from the characters :awesomeness. Iolanthe was everything a female lead is supposed to be. Her boldness and determination where at high levels, but she still didn't seem cocky, and at the same time I could also tell she really liked Titus, but at the same time she didn't sound like a love sick puppy which made her wonderful to read about.
I was quite confused with what ended up happening to the Inquisitor, and also wished that her powers and wickedness would have been described more because that would have made her a much stronger and terrifying character like I (think) she was supposed to be.

All in all, I think "The burning sky" is a imaginative novel with wonderful characters, but is only advised (in my opinion) to those with patience to read and finish a book, and to those who do not expect much of it.

MORE THAN THIS By Patrick Ness

17262303

This book is both confusing and brilliant in a way that is indescribable, and this is exactly what I expected from Patrick Ness. After finishing his "Knife of never letting go" trilogy I went into a very serious book depression which I have not fully recovered from even though I read the series in 2013, so I was a bit skeptical to read another one of his books because of the fear of being mentally scarred (in a good way) again, and for all of the high expectations and contradicting reviews surrounding his books.More than this proves my fears wrong because this didn't mentally scar me as much (it kinda just left me staring at the wall for 30 minutes wondering "what the hell did I just read? ") and because all of the high expectations proved to be right.

The story line is just so unique and unexpected, and even beautifully poetic in a way which just made it so enjoyable to read even though sometimes I had little to no knowledge of what was going on.What I mean when I say that I "did not know what was going on" is because Patrick only reveals things bout the plot and the characters little by little, so that when you think you have all the right pieces together you have to re evaluate because suddenly everything has changed, and you see the events in a different light because of the tinny bits of information that he provided.

I loved how the character where all very diverse and constantly changing because they had to face the consequences of their actions because at one point or another (some more than others) screwed up and ended up affecting everyone else, so everyone had their own ways to cope. They where so real and so human sometimes that I just could not help getting emotionally invested in some of them (this usually happens for me) and cried when they cried or laughed at their victories and cursed everyone that made them sad. I wont go into much detail about every single character because I believe that the less you know about the premise of this book and who takes a role in it the more you are going to enjoy it and appreciate it for the deep message that it leaves behind.

This book will have you questioning life since page one, and will probably (most definitely) you brain dead for a few minutes after you read it.

SCARLET By A. C. Gaughen

11983940

I am pleased to say that I actually very much enjoyed this novel despite the loads of mixed reviews that I have seen floating around on the Internet. Though I can see where all of the negative reviews are coming from, all of the problems they complained about in this book didn't upset me that much (this may be because I love Robin Hood's story and am a sucker for anything related to it).

I will admit that sometimes the plot / pace of the story seemed a little bit off, but once you started thinking that it would either pick up the pace again or slow down enough for you to get a sense of what was going on. One thing that quite surprised me in this book was the plot twist because I really didn't expect it and once the "thing" was revealed I had to back and read it again just to make sure I was wrong. As for the rest of the book the intense action was never boring and always kept me on guard to see what would happen next, and I even found myself being sorta surprised by the villains in this book because sometimes their actions where surprising too. I say villains referring to Gisbourne and the Sheriff, though the Sheriff didn't play that big of the role throughout the novel as I expected him to.

For me the love triangle was really pointless because I really felt that Robin cared more for Scarlet than Little John. LJ struck me as a really immature boy who just liked fooling around with all of the girls, once he got what he wanted from Scarlet he would have probably just moved on to the next chase. I did get mad at Robin for pushing Scar away; though both of them need to learn how to express their feelings better.

Overall I really enjoyed this read and cant wait to read the next installment!!

THE ORIGINALS By Cat Patrick

15790886

Wow. When I picked this up at the library the cover and everything told me it would be a good read, but considering the last two books that I had read I didn't get my hopes up,but ended taking it home anyway...THANK LORD BABY JESUS I DID.

The entire premise of the book was just phenomenal because of how the author took the "clone" theme and turned it into one person so to say. The pace and plot of the book were equally amazing because there was never a dull nor un-cute moment, and the pace at which Cat fed us the information was both overwhelming and revealing, but also conserved so that we didn't die of shock!!

As for the characters I loved how the three twins where exactly the same on the outside, but once you got to know them a little you saw how different they really where. I could one minute relate to Ella, and the next relate to Lizzy, and so on. As for the Romance I just couldn't get enough of it.I really felt that Sean and Lizzy where just so adorable together and the way that the author made them first start liking each other and then slowly start falling for each other was done in a way that wasn't to fast (like insta love) nor too slow, but just so right that it made it... believable. Another thing I loved about the "romances" in this book was the whole thing about the three girls only being able to date one guy and two of them having crushed on different ones, and even though this may have been one of my favorite parts of the book I loved how the author didn't make it all about the love, but about the "clones" discovering themselves, who they really where as people, and the truth about their life, and family.

This book made me laugh ate all of the adorable moments, bite my nails as the danger began, and over all it made me feel exited and that was the best of all. I am very happily looking forward to reading more Cat Patrick books!!

SWITCHED By Amanda Hocking

11457525

I find myself saying this allot, but I find its a statement that fits most of the books that I have read recently. "so much promise, but it fell on its face" That my friends is switched by Amanda Hocking.

While the cover is intriguing, and the characters are not that terrible I feel that the whole plot and execution of the book could have been so much more, but it wasn't. I was really exited when they mentioned Trolls because I feel that this is one of the least explored subjects in literature, so all of the possibilities of greatness popped up in my head. I started thinking of all the ways she could portray them, their customs, their quirks, but their where simply reduced to a few lines that detailed how they where picky eaters, didn't like to wear shoes, and had problematic hair. (though that last one was relatable it really didn't give me any insight about trolls)

The characters in the novel where okay ish, like they where somewhat relatable and intriguing, but they just where (for the lack of a better word)...average. Not that being average is a bad thing, but I was expecting to be wowed. The romance in theirs book is, now that I look back on it insta-love. but it was one of the more mild cases of it. I did surprisingly felt myself shipping Wendy and Finn...even though if Finn as much as looks away from her Wendy thinks its the end of the world.

Meh. There is not much else to say about this because we haven't really started seeing the main conflict yet, and nothing jaw dropping happens...but I still may pick up the seconds installment for more peter pan references.

THE BONE SEASON By Samantha Shannon

17199504

Confusing. That is the word that I could use to sum up the entire premise of this book and review. Confusing.

Apart from being VERY confusing, oddly enough because there was so much information it was annoying, it was also, now that I think of it, dull. The entire premise of the book is deceiving which in turn makes it sound unique and intriguing, but after reading it it feels like I have read the story a 100 time, but with slightly different scenarios, names, and vocabulary, but in the end its the same old predictable structure that makes me cringe sometimes.  I think the biggest reason I didn't enjoy this book as much was because of all of the hype it got. People started creating very high (and false) expectations, and like the book crazy girl that I am, I believed most of them, so when I read the book it fell flat on its clairvoyant face.

The beginning of the book may have been the hardest for me because we were just hit with all this info about the government system voyants and all of these other things like we were expected to know it. This starts to fade away a few chapters into the book, but a feeling of lack of knowledge, incomprehension, and uneasiness followed me throughout the rest of the book. This might sound contradictory, but another reason the book was not that great was because of all of the excess of information. My reason  to say this is because ( I think) the author started to realize that we needed some background info at certain points and just stopped writing the scene and jumped immediately into a flashback, or an explanation. The problem with this was that it made the writing sorta choppy at times and incoherent. Plus the "background info" didn't always answer the questions I had, or did in a way, but not completely.

As for the characters in this book there really isn't much to say about them because they were neither fabulous nor terrible they where just something out of a textbook. Just plain old meh, just like the romance.

I literally have nothing else to say about this book.
