VAMPIRE ACADEMY By Richelle Mead

9058586

Meh. I really cant say I loved nor I hated it because while it was very terrible in some aspects it was not the worst book I have ever read (which is saying something).

The whole idea of the plot was really messy and sloppy for my liking because for most of the book we don't get to know much about "the incident" that caused the two female leads to run away and even when Rose describes some of it its just bits and fragments that don't make sense so it gets to the point where I felt the entire book was a run-non sentence.

The characters where very confusing, and hard to like and connect with at times. A prime example of this would be Rose. I can easily say that since the first few pages I read about her I despised her. God almighty I might even dislike her more than Bella Swan, and that is going low. We learn early on how she thinks of herself with statements such as

"I knew perfectly well that there weren't a lot of girls at this school who looked as good in a bra as I did."

and

"I was a pretty dhampir, one who didn't mind getting into trouble and pulling crazy stunts. I became a novelty; they liked having me around for the fun of it."

My first impressions from sentences/ thoughts like these cheap girls that are full of themselves, will sleep with a boy while having no real interest him rather than his attractiveness, and the girl that boys just add to their "score" lists without a second thought. Apart from giving off this impression she make it clear from the start of what she thinks of actual dhampir women that offer services, referring to them as "bloodwhores" throughout the entire novel. Double standards like this just make me mad! all I could keep thinking while I read this was that she needed to come to terms with her inner slut.

As for the other characters they where...okay I guess (kinda boring). The only character I had real issues with was Rose.

As for the romance in this book...I wasn't feeling it. Dimitri didn't have me swooning and the lack of character background with him didn't help with the equation.
The way Rose described him, and her feelings for him didn't do much for me either...like I said earlier the only thing she seems to look for in people is their physical attractiveness.

I just really fell the concept of a vampire academy had allot of potential, but it fell a little flat with this book, but I have also heard from other people that the series does get better after the third book, but I don't know...meh.

THE MADMAN'S DAUGHTER By Megan Shepherd

12291438

THE ENDING THO.

While there is a significant lack of plot and character development "the madman's daughter" does provide for a gory (ish) thrill ride that will probably confuse you a little bit, but once you get the premise of the book it will become easier to read and get through.

The plot was one of my main concerns throughout the novel because well......there is none. I do get that this a retelling of a movie/novel (????) but the entire thing was just stretched out and was just, in a simple word, weak. The entire book was just Juliet whining, thinking about one boy, thinking about the other, running away from a poorly described monster (In my mind it was just a blur), screaming at her father, running back to her father. ugh. It just had no beginning and no end.

One thing worse that the plot was the characters. I feel like they could have so much more potential if we had actually been given a chance to get to know them, they just remained like bodies with faces with no background story. The only things we knew about them is what Juliet would say, and she didn't say much. One example of the poor character development was Edward. I feel like I would have liked him more if we could have learned more about him and his past. I don't mean his real past for obvious reasons, but I just wanted a little more insight on him, as well as the other characters.
A major thing that annoyed me as well was the poorly built love triangle. I understood why she would be kinda in love with Montgomery, but with Edward.....I just couldn't. They literally just met on the boat and he just instantly followed her around like a puppy and didn't question her when she invited him toward the island. We later on do discover why he didn't question it, but that's literally at the end so throughout the book this bothered me so much. Another thing about the love triangle that irritated me was Juliet's ability to not give a second thought to neither one of the guys. One second she would be thinking about her almost kiss with Montgomery, and one second later she would be thinking about Edwards eyes. CHOOSE WOMAN!

The only thing I will say about the ending was that it was unexpected, and it made me laugh. (I am a horrible human being).

I just have mixed feelings about this ok?

GRAVE MERCY By

9565548

I am going to admit that by looking at the cover of this book I thought it was going to be super cheesy, but after reading the summary and realizing it was about (basically) assassin nun I just had to give it a chance.

I was quite pleased with this novel. It had just a little bit of everything such as action, mystery, romance, death, and betrayal, and none of these key items seem to overlap each other throughout the book which was a good thing and created a good flowing pace in the book which was neither boring nor too fast.

the characters where also very interesting and developed quite allot throughout the book. though some of the minor characters didn't develop as much as I would have liked them to, but I think that is do to the fact that we didn't see much of them like Beast and Annith and allot of other people.
I did like Ismae as a main character we not only got to see the strong. assassin side of her, but we also got to see the insecure, venerable, more feminine side of her that I don't think we get to see with most female protagonists because the authors tend to focus allot on making the females be strong and brave that they forget to add in the femininity in all of us which make them seem lees heroic and more like robots.

As for the romance in the book it was all very sweet and touching, but it was missing something. I cant quite place my finger on it, but it was lacking something. Now don't get me wrong, It wasn't bad or insta love or anything, but it could have been better.

grave Mercy is and exiting historical novel that will keep you on your toes, smile at the bad ass females, make you laugh at the characters wits, and wish for an extra chapter.

THE IMMORTAL RULES By Julie Kagawa

10215349

I have been kinda hesitant to start a Julie Kagawa novel because countless friends never stop praising her books; especially her Iron Fey series, so I was a little scared that I was going to end up being disappointed and let down by her writing, but that (Thank to god) is not the case

The plot in this novel was great it always kept me on my toes guessing on what would happen next, and I can rarely say that for a book. Julie's writing styles was also very enjoyable also very descriptive without getting boring or dull. Another aspect of the story I was worried about was the whole "vampire" thing. I am not saying that all "vampire" related books are bad, but with so many out there even a decent one, so I was pleasantly surprised when I discovered that while Allie's vampireness (I am just going to call it that) played a key role in the story it didn't take over it.

Allie was a very interesting female lead. While she was cunning, ruthless, and brave she is also kind, protective, and loving which gives us the whole enchilada. One main thing that I LOVED about Allie was her humanness her will to survive. We see examples of this every time Allie comes close to death such as when she became a vampire, something she despised, and hated her entire life, but in the end she chose to live as her nightmare than cease to exist, and that is what made her relatable In my opinion.
As for the romance in the story it was somewhat insta love, but it built up to something really nice and promising that I a exited too see develop in the rest of the series. Another aspect of their romance that I enjoyed was that Allie was the strong vampire whilst Zeke was purely human. I am not saying that Zeke is weak, but it was nice seeing the girl being the predominantly stronger one after reading hundreds of Twilight like books where the guy is always strong and the girl is defenseless.

I am very exited to see where this series goes, and I am definitely going to check out the Iron Fey!!

PURE By Julianna Baggot

9680114

Although having an interesting cover , and promising summary Pure falls short of all expectations. This book has no head or feet. It seems like somebody just rambled on and on  about a dystopian world where boys have birds on their back, and girls are either fused with children or have dolls for hands.
The first 100 pages are a struggle to get by so if you don't mind a VERY slow start then start reading!

One thing that I did like about this book was the sinister descriptions of the characters fusions. Julianna describes that the survivers of the detonations where in one way or another connected to an ordinary, or living creature/ object around them. the thing that I liked about this was the cruel reality of it. She did not spare any gory details about the appearance of the people and their gruesome fates, and that is something that you don't see often in literature.

The relationships between the characters seemed kinda forced and not real although you could tell that the author really wanted us to believe that so and so fell in love and that so and so developed a friendship, but it all seemed plastic. One of the main character relationships I had trouble accepting was that of  Patridge and Lyda. It was too much insta love for my taste. One second he is using her so that he can escape form the dome and the next he is thinking that he can never let her go. i don't get it.

Although the writing was very poetic and in a gruesome way beautiful, Pure is a book to be read when you are not afraid to be bored.

THE WISHING SPELL By Chris Colfer

11607446

First picking up this book I reminded myself to keep my expectations low because of the two simple facts that this is Chris' first novel, and that I had only pictured hims as an actor and didn't think he would make it as a very successful author, but I was pleasantly surprised by the end of this first installment.
One of the things that surprised me the most is Chris' simplistic yet descriptive styles of writing which was very enjoyable and easy to follow, but never dull.

Alex and Conner where enjoyable and entertaining characters.
Even though their personalities where polar opposites it was clear that they both shared a tight bond, and that they would not  leave each other behind which made for some character development.
Another character duo that I very much shipped throughout the entire novel were Goldilocks and Jack.
The twist on both of their stories, including Red Riding hood's, where very entertaining and ADORABLE I just simply wanted them to be together since I first read about them.

Another thing that I would like to appreciate about Chris' styles of writing is that he was able to sneak in some important lessons here and there through the course of the book which made it really relatable in some ways, and will hopefully teach all of the children who read this a thing or two.

Even though some minor things where predictable and ordinary there where quite a number of enjoyable twists and turns that kept the story going making up for the others.
