QUOTE OF THE DAY

because why not?

People, I have discovered, are layers and layers of secrets. You believe you know them, that you understand them, but their motives are always hidden from you, buried in their own hearts. You will never know them, but sometimes you decide to trust them.
— Veronica Roth, Insurgent

THE ORACLES OF DELPHI KEEP By Victoria Laurie

Oracles of Delphi Keep (Oracles of Delphi Keep #1)

I had heard great things bout this book from some of my friends, so I decided to pick it up. Up until the middle of the book I hadn't seen that much action witch caused me to consider to give it up, but I decided to finish it just to see how everything would turn out, and I am glad I did!

The characters in this book where really well thought out, and made me laugh most of the time (witch was one of the reasons why I kept reading).
All of the main kid characters in this book seemed allot more mature than the ages that the author gave them and that really impressed me as well.
I also really enjoyed all of the hints and traces of mythology because it gave me insight, and it made the book allot more fun to read.

Even though it takes a while for the novel to take off, and for the action to begin, you will not be disappointed when it does, even if you are a child, teen, or adult.

i expect great things from the sequel.

MY FAMILY FOR THE WAR By Annie C. Voorhoeve

A heartbreaking historical novel about the struggles of a little Jewish girl through out World War II.

I have always been interested in WW2 and I like to read some books about it from time to time to try to imagine what it must have been like.
The author treats the subject with intense sympathy. We can feel the character s emotions so well and accurately as if we were there with them or as if we were reading their thoughts.
Choosing a favorite character in this novel was extremely hard. On one side I really enjoyed Ziska (our main character) because we can see her grow up, mature, make mistakes, and make choices that 10 year old kids shouldn't have to make. Ziska was also very determined to keep ties to both of her families and worked hard to please them both. On the other side you have Walter. Even though we don't know quite allot about Walter throughout the book, I quite liked him. Walter had clear views about his life and the war. He too, like Ziska, wanted to help his father have a better life and worked hard with him in the factories ( or any job he had)  so that they could both survive. Plus I don't have to decide between either of them because of how it ended ;)

Funny, witty, and heartbreaking "My family for the war" is a read that will leave you crying/thinking after you have turned the last page.

THE FAIRY TALE DETECTIVES By Michael Buckley

A fun, adventurous twist to fairy tales and happily ever after.

Jumping right into the action we encounter two "orphaned" sisters, a somewhat crazy long lost grandma, a big bad wolf, and a town where nothing is what it seems.
Adorable and witty from the first page to the last, this first instalment int the Grimm sisters series is shure to be a page turner!

The characters where all crazy, fun, and lovable. Grandma Grimm was exotic, smart, sweet (what a grandma should be), and a little bit mad in the head (witch never hurt anybody). Daphne and Sabrina where both adventurous, loyal, and funny. Though I didn't like Sabrina in the first part of the book because she was being really closed minded about their grandma and was not giving her a chance to explain herself.
As for the rest o the characters in the town I loved not knowing what fairy tale character they where! it made it all the more interesting! even though Michael does reveal their identities in some part of the book, it still kept me guessing!
(P.S. I loved how he included Arthur )

cant wait to get my hands on the sequel!

THE 13th SIGN By Kristin O'Donnell Tubb

The 13th Sign

Whilst being exited about a  zodiac sign theme book and everything it had to offer I was kinda unimpressed with the novel.

The characters where unimpressive and basically textbook boring. The main girl Jalen, was very irritating because she just would not step up to the challenge in front of her, and I found her to be very annoying in the first part of the book from when she was in the store to when she opened the book releasing the 13th sign.
As for the other characters, they where quite predictable. The best friend who is always there for you no matter what, and the best friend's brother who you secretly have a crush on (lets be serious here they totally liked each other).

As for informing me about the 12 signs of the zodiac, Tubb told me what any other zodiac book would have said. I did (kinda) enjoy the reincarnation of Virgo; she was funny.

Even though I do understand that this book is meant for younger children I kinda expected maybe a little more from it.

THE PEARL WARS By Nick James

The Pearl Wars (Skyship Academy, #1)

While I liked the idea of the book, it didn't really work so well for me.
The narrating is impossible to understand at times, and I couldn't really connect with any of the characters. For example Cassius was too violent and angry for no apparent reason, and Jesse is whining through out the whole book. At times you couldn't even tell who was the main character and who was just a secondary one. This was frustrating.

One good thing ( and maybe the only ) about this book was the pearls. I found the subject very interesting, and it was frustrating to read about because James would simply not give us any back story on how the pearls provided energy, or how they functioned.

You will probably like this book if you are a pre teen boy, and are looking for a sci-fy/action book that doesn't necessarily have to be extraordinary.

MONSTERS OF MEN By Patrick Ness

Monsters of Men (Chaos Walking, #3)

THE FEELS. FEELS. I CANT
NO
I. CRIED. there. I said it.

After falling absolutely in LOVE with the first two books in the series I was excited/bummed to read this third and final instalment. Why bummed? well I kinda never wanted it to end, but like other great series it had to end. ( And rip my heart out while it was at it).

I just cant begin to explain how wonderful and amazing this book was. It simply cannot be done. Starting off exactly where we left off and continuing until the heart wrenching end, there is never a dull moment in the novel!

I sometimes have problems with there being different narrators in a book, but Patrick Ness does not only make it enjoyable, he makes it necessary. Also with the third perspective thrown at us from 1017 wich gives us a look inside the Spackle side of the war and helps us understand all the rage that 1017 has for "the knife".
I also really enjoyed how Ness made the lines of heroes and villains very (VERY) blurred, one second a person could appear a saint and the next second they could be related to Satan.

I wont say more because I am still in shock and because I don't want to give away any spoilers, but let me just say this series will be one that will shape your life forever.

P.S. can I just take a moment to say that I want to marry Todd? No? Yes? OK.

VIRALS By Kathy Reichs

Virals (Virals, #1)

Just because of the fact that Kathy Reichs also wrote the Temperance Brennan novels I just had to pick this one up!!

The writing was phenomenal. Kathy made me feel as if I was with Tory and her friends, and she also explained all the nerdy/science things that they talked about (witch I very much appreciate).

Kathy never gave me a moment of dullness because there was so much stuff going on! with a murder to solve, new super power, and a crush on the most popular guy in school Tory has allot on her mind!

Yes, I will admit that the characters where kinda typical stereotypes sometimes, but overall I really enjoyed reading about their adventure in this book and I cant wait to pick up the next one.

This is a fun summer read if you are looking for something that will make you turn pages as if you where paid to do it.

FEVER By Lauren Destefano

Fever (The Chemical Garden, #2)
THIS IS A SEQUEL. CHECK OUT MY REVIEW FOR BOOK ONE HERE: WITHER

On with the review!!

My overall feelings for this book changed throughout the whole thing depending on what point in the story I was on. At the beginning I didn't understand a thing that was going on, and it was a little bit sloppy and rushed (though I did like that Lauren started right where she left off). In the middle of the book I felt as if Lauren was running out of ideas and just needed some boring scenes without action to take a couple off pages so she could meet the deadline. By the end I was feeling very disappointed with the book, but all of a sudden (*INSERT SPOILER HERE*) and the story picks up the pace and doesn't stop until the end.

As for Rhine and Gabriel´s relationship...I...well...I just cant see it. To me it just seems that Gabriel is the only one with actual feelings while Rhine just keeps remembering her husband and brother. I am very disappointed with Rhine. UGH.

If you don't mind reading a book that acts like a roller coaster with all its ups and downs, FEVER is the book for you.

DELIRIUM By Lauren Oliver

Delirium (Delirium, #1)

Going into this book I thought it would sweep me off my feet. My friends had talked wonders about this book, and I had also read some astonishing reviews online, so putting two and two together, I thought it was going to be groundbreaking.
it was not.

let me explain.
I am going to give Lauren points for coming up with a concept a unique as love being a disease that should be eliminated, but the love interest, and the characters just didn't do it for me.
First of all Lena was a weak character. throughout the whole book she just feels sorry for herself and cant really make decisions on her own, even when other people depended on it, and that frustrated me to a point that I would just slap her in the face ( if I could ).
Now lets move on to the romance. The whole concept of the novel was supposed to be about true love and learning to love others, but if what Lina and Alex have is called true love; I am going to die alone.
I felt that the whole Lina/Alex relationship was a little bit over done, and too rushed. Since the first moment they kissed they just wouldn't keep their hands off each other! Which is like most couples behave, but Lena had been terrified of boys five seconds earlier and after she just magically turns into an expert kisser. what?

The ending didn't make much sense either, but to be honest I wasn't paying much attention anymore. :/

THE DIVINERS By Libba Bray

The Diviners (The Diviners, #1)

Can I just take a moment to appreciate the setting? I mean, most of the books Y/A now a days are set in either in present time, the 1800's (usually in the UK), or in the future, but in "the Diviners" Libba takes us to New York in the 1920's! (one of my favorite time periods if I do say so myself). With her astonishing power for story telling, I actually felt like a "flapper" in the 1920's!!

The story and the plot are very rich. I liked how she didn't only focus on the mystery, romance, or adventure, but gave us a bit of everything.

I really enjoyed the characters because they seemed dynamic and mysterious to the point where I wasn't shure what I had read about them was a sneaky half truth, a truth, or a lie. It keeps things interesting.

With and unforgettable story, and characters The Diviners will earn a nice clean spot in your favorites shelf.
