MY FAMILY FOR THE WAR By Annie C. Voorhoeve

A heartbreaking historical novel about the struggles of a little Jewish girl through out World War II.

I have always been interested in WW2 and I like to read some books about it from time to time to try to imagine what it must have been like.
The author treats the subject with intense sympathy. We can feel the character s emotions so well and accurately as if we were there with them or as if we were reading their thoughts.
Choosing a favorite character in this novel was extremely hard. On one side I really enjoyed Ziska (our main character) because we can see her grow up, mature, make mistakes, and make choices that 10 year old kids shouldn't have to make. Ziska was also very determined to keep ties to both of her families and worked hard to please them both. On the other side you have Walter. Even though we don't know quite allot about Walter throughout the book, I quite liked him. Walter had clear views about his life and the war. He too, like Ziska, wanted to help his father have a better life and worked hard with him in the factories ( or any job he had)  so that they could both survive. Plus I don't have to decide between either of them because of how it ended ;)

Funny, witty, and heartbreaking "My family for the war" is a read that will leave you crying/thinking after you have turned the last page.
